The Quilpie Cultural Society was formed in 1972 when the community became aware that funding could be sought through the then Arts Council for Outback Groups to employ tutors for Art and Craft workshops.

The Quilpie Cultural Society foundation members worked at fundraising to raise funds to purchase a building suitable for their needs. Over the next twenty years the Society sourced funding annually to run workshops through the Queensland Arts Council directly until 1998 when Regional Arts Development Funding became available through local Government.

The Quilpie Cultural Society has long fostered the growth of arts and arts business in the Quilpie Shire and was in 2001 held as the R.A.D.F. Role Model for funded workshops.

The Society attracts around 100 memberships per year with approx 75 students benefiting from a dozen different workshops throughout the year.

The Society elects its Honorary Office Bearers annually and in 2007 formed a Public Art sub committee to promote and seek Artworks for Public places in consultation with the Quilpie Shire Council.

The Quilpie Cultural Society will continue in its efforts to improve cultural facilities and to support cultural tourism programs and artists within the Shire of Quilpie, complimenting the Museum and Visitors Centre with opportunities to provide exhibitions showcasing Quilpie Shire cultural diversity.

The Society advertises its workshops throughout the year and welcomes interested visitors and artists who may wish to participate
